Where to eat in Vancouver?
Vancouver is such a multicultural and diverse city that we get variety in every shape and form, and of course there are many food options here. African, European, Asian, Latino, you name it, Vancouver has it all. Some parts of the city have big ethnical groups, such as Richmond where more than half of the population is Asian descent which I really like being such a fan of Asian Food. There you can find south east asian food, traditional Chinese, Korean and Japanese and the whole neighbourhood got that asian vibe, clean, many options for shopping and organized.
Downtown Vancouver is where things mix up and you can find every kind of food you can imagine, from African to Asian to Middle Eastern to Latina and the list goes on and on, the downtown area is not really large but every block has some food options which is great. I’ll list some of my favourite inexpensive and good places to eat.
The Famous Warehouse
(989 Granville St | 156 W Hastings St)
This place and Ikea are neck and neck as my favourites. It’s got that divey look to it and is very laid back and a great place to go for a cold one. This bar is quite popular among students so it has a fairly young clientela coming here for cheap food, which it is. $4,95 for every item on their menu, I usually go for the burger with fries, and drinks are not expensive either. The staff is pretty cool and upbeat, just being there you feel at home. Throughout the week there are also all-you-can-eat days with Pasta or Tacos for less than $10, a real steal. There are 2 locations downtown, the one on Granville St being the busiest one so arriving early if you’re going for dinner or trying the location on W Hastings maybe be a good choice for not enduring a long line.
No 9 Restaurant
(812-5300 No 3 Road, Richmond)
Being a night owl as I am Richmond is one of my favourite parts of the city because everything is open until late. There are casinos, karaoke, cinemas, arcades and more running until late so that there are restaurants running until late in Richmond, or even better like No 9 Restaurant which is 24 hours! The restaurant serves a mix of asian and western food which are good, and I have to say I don’t know much about asian food but a good friend of mine from that area introduced me to the place and some of the best dishes there. I was hooked! Since then I introduced the place to other friends and I hope they do introduce the place to other friends because the food is good and so is the price.
Vancouver Alpen Club
(4875 Victoria Drive)
I do love Germany and german people so I had to try this place a german friend suggested me. The second you step into the place it does have an European touch to it, the decoration, tables and chairs, table clothes and so on. I haven’t been yet but I’ve heard this is a good place to celebrate Oktoberfest if you are in Vancouver when it happens. The entire menu is very deutsch with plenty of dishes that pleases everyone and the best is the Wednesday Feast For Two, when you get to try as much of the options as you can for a price reasonable price.
Bestie
(105 East Pender)
I mentioned before I like Germany, (i know) so another one of my favourite eats in Vancouver has to have that german influence. Bestie was started by two friends and the help of their Indiegogo campaign, as they describe the place is a sausage and beer parlour where they serve natural meat from local farmers and butchers and the use of produce grown in downtown Vancouver’s urban farms. Its inspiration comes from german street food so needless to say the food is good. It is that small, cozy place to come and hang out with some pretzel and beer.
I didn’t use to travel much but once I started, I just can’t stop travelling. On Can I Pack? I try to share how I make my travels work out because travelling shouldn’t be hard.
